Geneva Softball Runs Win Streak to Six Games

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s softball team hadn′t played in a week, but its pitching picked up right where it left off last Tuesday. The Golden Tornadoes swept a doubleheader from Myers University by the scores of 2-1 and 5-0. The victories moved Geneva′s overall record to 19-10, including victories in 16 of its last 19 games.

Ashley Archer struck out a career best 15 batters in game one on her way to a complete game four-hitter. Archer allowed a solo homer in the fourth inning to end her streak of 17 consecutive scoreless innings. The reigning AMC North pitcher of the week set down 15 Myers hitters on strikes including eight of the first nine outs recorded. Geneva opened the scoring with a run in the first inning on Marisa Barickman′s RBI double. What turned out to be the game winner was plated in the second inning on an Amy Pearce base hit. Pearce collected two of Geneva′s three hits in game one.

Game two was again dominated by a Geneva hurler. Erinne Metler tossed her fourth shut-out of the season in allowing just four hits. Metler struck out a season high 10 batters to pick up her 10th victory of the season. Geneva′s three runs in the third inning helped secure the lead. Pearce and Barickman again delivered RBI hits. Pearce came through again in the fifth with a two-run single to give the Golden Tornadoes some added insurance. Pearce and Jackie Anthony each collected two hits in the night cap.

Geneva is scheduled to begin conference play with a trip to defending conference champion Tiffin University on Thursday. The Golden Tornadoes will return to their home field on Saturday to host 23rd ranked Notre Dame College at 1 pm.
