Home Field Secured With Sweep over Carlow

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s softball team needed a pair of wins on Monday to secure home field for the first round of the AMC play-offs this weekend. The Golden Tornadoes got exactly what they needed with victories of 1-0 and 4-1 to move to 5-5 in the AMC North and hold down the third seed for the AMC qualifying best of three series. The victory moved Geneva′s overall record to 29-18 as the Golden Tornadoes will now meet Ursuline College at home with the best of three series beginning on Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm

Pitching, much like it has all season, ruled the day for Geneva. In game one, Erinne Metler won her 15th game of the season by allowing six hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. Ashley Archer came on to record the final two outs for her third save of the season. Geneva′s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double off the bat of Amy Pearce. Pearce collected two of Geneva′s five hits in game one.

In the night cap, Ashley Archer picked up the complete game victory and held Carlow to six hits. She struck out five and walked two for her 13th win of the season. Michawn Rich and Amy Pearce had two hits each as Pearce twice knocked in Rich with RBI doubles.

Geneva will host Walsh University on Tuesday in the regular season finale and will open the best of three qualifying series at home on Friday afternoon.
