Beaver Falls, PA - As it turned out, Geneva's baseball team needed to win four straight games against Point Park over the weekend to clinch its first AMC North divisional title. After taking care of half of that equation on Friday, the Golden Tornadoes returned home on Saturday to complete the four-game sweep and capture their first divisional title. Geneva defeated Point Park by scores of 3-2 and 9-1 on Saturday as it moved to 28-18 overall, including a 12-4 record in divisional play. In addition to its first title, Geneva qualified for the NAIA region 9 tournament, which begins next Tuesday at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.

In game one, Geneva opened the scoring with a Mike Bruno solo homer in the third inning. After Point Park tied the game in the fourth, Geneva regained control with a pair of runs in the fifth. A pair of walks, a wild pitch and a Tadd Eyster RBI single proved to be the difference in the victory. On the mound, Brandon Baughman pitched five innings to earn the victory. Justin Montgomery recorded the final six outs for his seventh save of the season. Baughman scattered five hits and struck out three for his fourth win of the season.

Pitching was solid in game two as Matt Colella went the distance and allowed just one run, while striking out five. Colella also pitched in at the plate with a pair of hits and a run batted in. Geneva scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Leading 4-1 into the sixth inning, the Golden Tornadoes broke the game open with four hits and five runs in the sixth, including a two-run single off the bat of Rob Arata.

Geneva will open regional play on Tuesday against the still undecided #3 seed from the AMC South. The winner of the six-team regional tournament will advance to a Super Regional round with that winner advancing into the NAIA College World Series.
