MEN′S SOCCER GAINS SPLITINOPENING WEEKEND

Beaver Falls, PA - What a difference a year makes for Geneva men′s soccer coach Todd Beall. After watching his Golden Tornadoes start the 2006 season with a record of 0-8, the second year head coach saw his Geneva team pick up its first victory of the season in just its second match of the season. In fact, the Golden Tornadoes almost came away with a pair of victories in their opening weekend of 2007.

On Friday night, Geneva dropped a 2-1 decision to host Buffalo State. The Golden Tornadoes allowed just two shots on goal, but both shots found the back of the net and proved to be enough for Geneva to come up just short. Freshman Jake McCracken scored his first collegiate goal five minutes into the game, but the Golden Tornadoes could not hold on to the lead.

On Saturday afternoon, Geneva bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Hilbert College. Freshman Scott Swartley tallied both goals, the first two of his young collegiate career. Swartley connected in the 13th and 16th minutes of the first half and Geneva′s defense was able to make the two-goal advantage hold up. Junior goalkeeper Sam McCracken was forced to make just one save on his way to his first victory and shut-out in 2007. Geneva dominated the game in out shooting Hilbert 18-1 in the match.

The Golden Tornadoes will take their 1-1 record into action on Tuesday night for their home opener against Point Park University at 7 pm.
