LUCKY SEVEN, WIN STREAK ROLLS ON

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s men′s soccer team saw its win streak stretch to seven on Thursday night with a convincing 6-0 victory over Penn State Beaver at the Merriman Athletic Complex. Geneva is now sitting at 7-1 for the year, while PSU dropped to 2-5.

In a game that was seemingly never in doubt, the Golden Tornadoes controlled the play from start to finish and out shot PSU by the count of 33-6. It was the eighth straight game that Geneva has enjoyed a shooting edge against its opponent.

Geneva′s soccer program turned on the lights to its brand new scoreboard before tonight′s match and during the match, the Golden Tornadoes lit it up even more. Scott Swartley, Geneva′s freshman stand out, opened the scoring with his team best sixth and seventh goals of the season. Swartley struck in the 13th and 18th minutes to put Geneva on top.

Russ Picard extended the lead with his fourth goal of the season in the 22nd minute. Coert Voorhess scored his third goal of the season on a beautiful head in on a Geneva corner kick in the 40th minute. Just thirty seconds later, Kenton Burkhart capped off the five goal first half for the Golden Tornadoes.

Chris Morschi, usually a defensive starter for Geneva, moved up to the front line in the final moments of the game and registered his first collegiate goal in the 71st minute to close out the scoring.

Geneva will finally open PAC play a week from Friday when it travels to Washington & Jefferson. Geneva′s next home match will be on October 1st when it welcomes old time rival Westminster College to town.
