STRONG SHOWING FOR CROSS COUNTRY AT ALLEGHENY

Meadville, PA - Geneva′s men′s and women′s cross country teams traveled to Allegheny College on Saturday morning for the Allegheny College Classic. It was by far the most impressive performance by both teams as each squad is showing incredible signs of improvement from one week to the next. While the men′s team finished fifth out of seven teams, the women′s team narrowly missed winning the overall competition, but ended in second place, just five points shy of overall winner Allegheny College.

On the men′s side, Phil Falk had an exceptional day with a seventh place overall finish with a time of 28:23 on the 8K course. Josh Falk, Ryan Thorn and Ryan Curley all finished in the top 40. Perhaps the biggest turnaround came from Josh Brown, who trimmed almost 10 minutes off of his 8K time from a week ago and finished 58th overall.

The women had eight racers finish in the top 26. Beth Bartolomeo crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 24:42, while teammate Susan Fletcher was sixth just nine seconds later. Other top finishers included Rebecca VanRegenmorter (9), Laura Seyler (10), Sara Morrison (18), Marsha Miller (19) and Sarah Davis (26). Geneva′s women finished with an overall score of 45 points, while first place Allegheny won the meet with 40 points. On the men′s side, it was also Allegheny taking home the top prize with 31 total points.

Geneva will be back in action on October 6th when it travels to Slippery Rock University. Next weekend, Geneva′s cross country teams will help host the homecoming 5K through and around College Hill beginning at 10 am.
