CURTAIN GOES UP FOR GENEVAIN IMPRESSIVE FASHION

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s men′s basketball team opened its 2007-08 season in impression fashion on Friday night. Playing in the opening round of the Tornado Tip-Off Tournament, Geneva cruised to a 106-77 victory over Franciscan University. The Golden Tornadoes will face Malone College in the finals on Saturday after the Pioneers defeated Grove City 85-61 in the first game of the night.

Geneva out scored Franciscan 56-24 in the first 20 minutes on the strength of a 24-6 run after falling behind 6-5 in the first two minutes of the game. When freshman Elliott Law knocked down a jump shot with 8:12 to play in the half, Geneva extended its lead to 29-12.

The Golden Tornadoes shot 63% from the field in the first half, while holding the Barons to under 40% from the field. Even more impressive was the work from behind the three-point arc where Geneva was 17-29 for the game. Leading the charge offensively was sophomore Brian Hill who made six three-point field goals and finished with a team high 18 points. Greg McDivitt was 7-8 from the field and added 15 points and team best 10 rebounds in the victory. A total of four players finished in double figures for Geneva and a total of 18 players found the scoring column for the Golden Tornadoes.

Franciscan was led by 20 points from Nate Stanton and 14 points from Matt Liedel. The Barons will face Grove City in tomorrow afternoon′s consolation game.

The consolation game will tip off at 1:00 pm with Geneva′s championship game set for 3:00 pm against Malone College.
