VICTORY BOWL LOSS ENDS GENEVA′S SEASON

Beaver Falls, PA - The 2007 NCCAA Victory Bowl turned out to be anything but for the Geneva football team on Saturday night. The Golden Tornadoes saw their season come to an end with a 45-17 loss to Malone College. Geneva ended its year with an 8-3 record, while Malone moved to 8-4.

Geneva got the night rolling in the right direction with a ten play 49 drive on its first possession that ended with a 13 yard touchdown reception from Bobby Bondi to Ryan Forbes. After Malone tied the game on a Bernard Payton 22 yard touchdown run, Nick DiPietro nailed a 26 yard field goal early in the second quarter to give Geneva a 10-7 lead. Malone then scored the game′s next 31 points, all of which came in the second quarter. The Pioneers took advantage of four first half turnovers by Geneva, all of which were turned into points. Payton scored on three runs of 22, 20 and three yards. Meanwhile, Malone quarterback Billy Bob Orsagh connected on three touchdown passes, the last of which coming on a 73 yard hookup to Derek Deardorff in the fourth quarter. Deardorff scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Malone receiver core.

Parker Nuetzel scored Geneva′s final touchdown on a seven yard pass from Bondi that cut the Malone lead to 21, until Orsagh and Deardorff hooked up for the final time on the night.

Malone racked up 521 total yards of offense, including 185 rushing yards from Payton, who earned offensive MVP honors. The defensive MVP was awarded to Malone′s Dan Hromada, who led the Pioneers with nine tackles.

Geneva′s defense, which entered the game as the top ranked scoring defense in the PAC, was led by Zach Feltrop′s 18 tackles, including ten solo efforts. Brad Roman contributed 15 tackles in his final collegiate game.
