It has really happened … PennDOT opened the newly-aligned Route 18 skirting the Geneva Campus on Saturday, November 17.
Traffic flow has changed drastically on old Route 18, as well as on other campus roads and access points. The college and PennDOT will provide as much signage as possible to assist with this transition.
Here is what to expect since the new Route 18 has opened:
Old Route 18 has closed to all vehicle traffic from the bottom of the hill (28th Street and 9th Ave near Papa John's) to the North entrance of Reeves Field (Spring Alley). Traffic leaving Reeves Field via the South exit is permitted to turn right only and proceed onto old Route 18. There is a four-way stop at the intersection of 31st and old Route 18. Spring Alley (the drive on the North end of the stadium) remains one way in only and down toward the Fieldhouse. No traffic is permitted to exit Spring Alley.
Park Place (in front of Northwood) remains two-way traffic in and out of the campus. Exiting from Park Place motorists may proceed straight ahead (west) and up 31st to new Route 18. Motorists may turn right on old Route 18 and proceed north and exit campus using College Avenue along the library and down to Pearce Hall. Motorists may also turn left on old Route 18 to access Spring Alley.
No southbound traffic on old Route 18 is permitted past Spring Alley.
Parking is permitted on new Route 18.
Traffic is permitted south on old Route 18 down to 31st Street where a new stop sign will be installed. Traffic may turn right on 31st Street or turn left or proceed straight to Spring Alley.
Alumni Hall Parking Lot is accessed from 31st Street. The 31st Street access is now entrance only. Exit only is from the north end near Alexander and Alumni Hall. This exit is a right turn only on south old Route 18.
