Physicist Dr. David W. Snoke will come to Geneva College as a guest speaker on Thursday and Friday, October 16 and 17, 2014.
On Thursday, Snoke will present "Why did Science Arise in a Christian World?" at 7 p.m. Friday′s message is "Being a Christian in Science," starting at 10:10 a.m. Both lectures will be in Skye Lounge.
Snoke hails from the University of Pittsburgh, where he is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. He is also the head of an experimental quantum optics laboratory at the university, which is funded by the National Science Foundation
He has published many articles on faith, science and how the two relate to one another.
A Fellow of the American Physical Society, Snoke has written over 120 papers for refereed scientific journals, including Nature, Science and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, as well as two books and two textbooks.
On faith-science interactions, he has published articles in the Journal of the American Science Affiliation and a book on science and faith. Snoke currently serves as an elder at the City Reformed Church in Pittsburgh, and is the President of the Christian Scientific Society, which seeks to bring together Christians with scientific training and a high view of the inspiration of Scripture.
Snoke is coming to the college as part of the Geneva Visiting Artist and Lecture Series (GVALS). His appearances are free and open to the public.
