Beaver Falls, PA– Geneva Volleyball’s freshman Erica Hughes’ freshman campaign cannot go unnoticed. The outside hitter from North Jackson, Ohio, has been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Rookie of the Week for the second time after Geneva’s 3-0 week ending October 26, 2014.
Geneva Director of Athletics, Van Zanic, commented, “Erica has been simply amazing for our volleyball program this season. To have a first year student athlete contribute at all is impressive and yet Erica has been one of the main cogs for this team from day one. We are so proud of what our volleyball program has achieved this year and are hopeful that their post season run will be equally as impressive.”
Hughes and the Golden Tornadoes went 3-0 after facing conference opponents St. Vincent, Waynesburg and Chatham. Hughes led Geneva’s offense at St. Vincent with 14 kills in 28 swings while only giving up two errors for a .429 hitting percentage. She finished the week with a .362 percent after compiling 23 kills.
This week Geneva hits the road to finish its regular season; determining its post-season Presidents’ Athletic Conference rankings in back-to-back games at Thiel College Thursday October 30 (7 p.m.) and Friday October 31 at Thomas More (6 p.m.).
