track074.jpgYoungstown, OH – The men and women’s indoor track & field season began on Friday at Youngstown State University with setting two of Geneva’s indoor records.

Senior Josh Guiser (Fayette City, PA) finished sixth in the 60 meter dash among 33 sprinters. Guiser broke his own school record with a time of 7.05 seconds.

Junior Jacob Mellinger (Leetonia, OH / Crestview) set the 400 meter dash indoor record with a time of 50.63. The record time placed Mellinger tenth out of 32 sprinters.

“Josh and Jake broke the school records in the 60 meter and the 400 meter at the first meet. That usually doesn't happen so early in the season, so this should be an exciting year for both of them,” said head coach Phil Thompson.

“This was a very competitive meet and everyone went out and performed at a high level. I was very pleased with the results on both sides.”

Other standout performances included fourth place finishes by Anna Wargo (Pittsburgh, PA / Avonworth) with a time of 11.31 in the 3000 meter race and Madelyn Blosser (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) in the 900 meter (2:29.66).

Freshman Havilah Gaugler (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) finished fifth in the 800 meter with a time of 2:31.46.

Geneva indoor track and field teams will break to celebrate Christmas, returning to the track Saturday January 17 at Otterbein University.
