Women’s Cross Country Races Against National Caliber; Finishes Second Among PAC Competition

Latrobe, PA – The Geneva women’s cross country team raced in the Saint Vincent Invitational meet on Saturday, September 17. There were several high caliber cross country programs running in the meet today among those being Allegheny College and Carnegie Mellon University. The Geneva Tornadoes placed ninth overall, being the second place finisher among President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) competition.

The Golden Tornadoes raced hard together as a unit; the difference in time between the first Geneva runner and the fifth Golden Tornadoes was 1:09.

“Our freshmen are really working well together.  Jennifer Simmons, Lydia Swartzbaugh, and Madelline Jameson were a strong #3-5 for us today,” said head coach Brian Yowler.

He continued, “Things are really starting to come together this season for Hannah.  Without a doubt there are exciting things ahead for her!”

Sophomore runner Hannah Mansell (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) was the first runner across the finish line for the Golden Tornadoes with a time of 25:46. This time was almost a minute faster than last year when she ran at this same course at the PAC Championship meet.

Junior runner Madelyn Blosser (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) also performed well in the meet with a time of 25:43.

The Golden Tornadoes will return to this course in six weeks for the 2016 PAC Championship Meet looking perform well. In the meantime, Geneva will race again at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational on Saturday, October 1 at 11:15 a.m.
