Cleveland, OH – Geneva challenged Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) number one seed, Case Western Reserve, but fell short in a 16-14 final. Geneva’s offense generated 303 yards, 224 rushing yards. Trewon Marshall (Leetsdale, PA/Quaker Valley) showcased a 112-yard performance while Bryan Stafford (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) and Devin Kelosky (Ellwood City, PA/Riverside) each tallied a touchdown. The loss moves the Golden Tornadoes overall record to 2-5, 1-4 in the PAC.

The Golden Tornadoes beat Case Western Reserve (CWR) to the scoreboard thanks to a two-yard rush by Stafford at 6:12 in the first quarter from a 15 play, 75-yard drive.

Geneva kept a 7-6 edge over CWR at the half thanks to a blocked kick by Tim Martin (Moon, PA/Moon) and an interception at Geneva’s one-yard line by Zach Kadlecik (Corapolis, PA/West Allegheny) holding the Spartans to a six-point first half.

Kelosky’s touchdown finishing a 14 play, 83-yard drive in the fourth wasn’t enough to overcome Case Western’s 10-point third quarter.

Geneva’s defense was led by Jimmy Quinlan (Brookfield, OH/Brookfield) with 13 tackles. Quinlan has developed a knack in producing outstanding performances against CWR. He recorded 18 tackles against the Spartans in 2014 and 2015.

Jonny Fiscus (Freedom, PA/Freedom) also earned double-digit tackles with 10.

Martin affected all areas of the defensive charts with eight tackles, 0.5 TFL (1 yard), a pass break up and a blocked kick.

“We played a very very good team and had an opportunity to win,” said head coach Geno DeMarco. “It came down to a half of a yard and we didn’t get it and so we lose. It’s football and it’s a tough game – we weren’t good enough.”

The Golden Tornadoes look to host the Grove City Wolverines on Saturday, October 29 at 7 p.m. back home at Reeves Field.
