Geneva’s two homers not enough to clinch the win

Bethany, WV – Despite two innings of hard work, Geneva’s two home runs fell just short against Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Bethany College. Geneva lost 4-3 in the single 9 inning match up on Friday, April 28 in West Virginia. The conference loss brings Geneva’s record to 8-27, 2-19 in the PAC.

Geneva got off to a fantastic start with junior Tyler Pagaduan (Voorhess, NJ/Eastern Regional) hitting a home run as the first man up to bat. Inning one continued to put Geneva in a great position as they loaded the bases in the next three batters up to the plate. Mark Overmeir’s (Crofton, MD/Mount St. Joseph) sacrificed fly out to center field brought short stop Forrest Beighley (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) home, giving Geneva the 2-0 early lead.

After an inning of silence, junior outfielder Joey Luciana (Oakmont, PA/St. Joseph) made his mark on the scoreboard by hitting one out of the park, bringing Geneva’s lead to 3-0.  The lead was not enough to withstand Bethany’s powerhouse of a sixth inning where they scored four great runs.

After eight innings on the mound Branden Schlick (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) had to take the loss, finishing with five hits, no walks, five strike outs, and a 4.0 ERA.

Geneva returns home to face the Bethany Bison on Saturday, April 29 in a seven inning double header at 1pm and 3pm.
