Kent, a Beaver County native, earned his bachelor’s degree in student ministries from Geneva before working for two decades in church-based ministries in both western Pennsylvania and Detroit, Michigan. While pastoring at North Way Christian Community in Wexford, PA, Kent was introduced to former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin by NFL player Vance McDonald. In 2019, Tomlin invited Kent to become the chaplain for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Both Kent and his wife, Erica (Snyder) ‘99, joined the staff of Athletes in Action in July 2019. As NFL chaplains, Kent oversees the men’s ministry for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Erica ministers to the women in the organization, including the partners of players, coaches, and staff members. Read more about Team Chevalier in the 2021 Geneva Magazine feature “From Gold and White to NFL’s Black and Gold.”

Kent’s book, Do It Afraid, releases on March 24, 2026, by Maison Vero Publishing and includes a foreword written by Mike Tomlin. Kent shares on his website:

Kent's book, Do It Afraid

“The first part of this book will be a testimony of what God has done in my life. I have taken several leaps of faith in my thirty years of following Jesus, and I will attempt to share the wisdom I've learned along the way. I'd love to say that every time I jumped, I hit the landing zone, but I didn't. There were hard lessons from jumping too soon and hitting the rocks. I'll be honest with you about my mistakes. I'll share the painful moments that required God's healing while also recounting the incredible life-giving and divine moments.

“The second part of this book is the process that Erica and I use to make these types of decisions. We have learned to L.E.A.P. before we jump. I'll take you through a series of practical action steps found in Scripture that we have learned over three decades of following Jesus together. We've learned these powerful lessons from great mentors along the way, and I will share with you the exact Bible-inspired steps we took before we made one of the biggest decisions in our lives.”

Ben Roethlisberger, two-time NFL Super Bowl champion quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has endorsed the book: “When Kent speaks, you listen. When he writes, you read. God has filled him with so much wisdom and insight, it's inspiring. I am blessed to call him a friend, mentor and brother in Christ. Do It Afraid is a must read for anyone trying to get the most out of their life, marriage, and faith.”

Do It Afraid can be pre-ordered on Amazon. Find more information about his ministry and upcoming book at kentchevalier.com/doitafraid.
