
{"articleDetail":{"publishDateDisplay":"March 25, 2026","summary":"The Geneva College community mourns the passing of Professor Edward Dambach on March 16, 2026.","image":"site://geneva.edu/news/_assets/ed-dambach-header-2.jpg","tagItems":"[]","articleText":"The Geneva College&#160;community mourns the passing of Professor Edward&#160;Dambach on&#160;March 16, 2026, after&#160;his battle with cancer.&#160;\nDambach&#160;served as a mathematics professor at Geneva for 40 years, teaching his first course in 1986.&#160;He earned the 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award, in which a student shared, &#8220;[Professor Dambach] is&#160;without a doubt the most exciting and effective professor I&#8217;ve had in my college career.&#8221;\n&#8220;Professor Dambach had a heart for students that students could feel in his classrooms and had a rare talent for making math understandable to even those students who feared it,&#8221; shares Provost Melinda Stephens.&#160;&#8220;He will be dearly missed by his colleagues and his students.&#8221;\nOver the years,&#160;Dambach&#160;wrote two calculus textbooks, which are still in use for the Calculus I and Calculus II courses (MAT 161 and 162).&#160;He served&#160;as&#160;Co-PI&#160;for the &#8220;Geneva Preparing STEM Teachers&#8221;&#160;Noyce Grant, which provides scholarships to STEM secondary education majors.&#160;\nDambach&#160;received&#160;his&#160;bachelor&#8217;s&#160;of science in mathematics education from Westminster College in 1971, and his&#160;master&#8217;s&#160;of education from Westminster College in 1976.&#160;In addition to his work at the College, he taught mathematics&#160;in the Blackhawk and Riverside School Districts&#160;and was an active member&#160;in&#160;the community.&#160;\nIn a September 2023 faculty testimony at Geneva&#8217;s weekly&#160;chapel service, Dambach shared&#160;with the campus community about the passing of his wife, Diana. He shared, &#8220;We&#8217;ll&#160;face challenges and circumstances in life that seem unfair,&#160;but God is in control.
