Dr. Ann Paton&#160;&#8216;50, professor emerita, who passed away on May 2, 2026, at the age of 97.&#160;\nPaton served as an English professor at Geneva for 36 years, from 1958-1994.&#160;She was instrumental in establishing&#160;Geneva&#8217;s core curriculum&#160;and humanities program&#160;in 1968,&#160;alongside fellow professors Dave Wollman and&#160;Betty Douglas Asche.&#160;Paton&#160;received&#160;numerous&#160;teaching&#160;awards during her tenure at Geneva, and was awarded the Life G Award in 2019, the highest alumni&#160;distinction&#160;at the College.&#160;\n&#8220;Dr. Paton was an exceptional teacher, mentor, and highly respected academic leader,&#8221; says Provost Melinda Stephens, PhD. &#8220;She&#160;impacted&#160;the lives of hundreds of students and has had a lasting impact on Geneva College, especially&#160;in&#160;our humanities program. Her legacy is deep and far-reaching.&#8221;&#160;\nA western PA native, Paton&#160;was born&#160;in Lawrence County&#160;in 1928.&#160;Paton attended Geneva&#160;College and earned bachelor'apos;s&#160;degrees in both mathematics and English&#160;in 1950.&#160;She graduated as&#160;valedictorian&#160;of&#160;her class. Paton then earned a&#160;master&#8217;s&#160;in&#160;literature&#160;from the University of Pittsburgh, a doctorate in medieval English literature from the University of&#160;Colorado, and&#160;attended Trinity Episcopal Seminary. In 1991, she was ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, where she served for 26 years.&#160;\nPaton was active in the Church of the Ascension in Pittsburgh, where she served as&#160;liturgical&#160;assistant for many years in addition to other roles.&#160;She was a spiritual director to many.&#160;\nDuring her years as a high school English teacher (1950-1958), Paton&#160;was also&#160;senior class advisor, assistant drama director, and girls&#8217; basketball coach.&#160;In 2024,&#160;she was inducted to the Beaver County Education Hall of Fame, honoring her impact as an educator.&#160;\nPaton&#8217;s legacy at Geneva College and in western Pennsylvania&#160;remains. Her passion for education and the arts&#160;brought joy to many,&#160;notably&#160;through the establishment of Geneva&#8217;s core curriculum, which builds students&#8217; capacity for practical reasoning, creative thinking, and personal character.&#160;She was known and loved by many, who will remember her impact&#160;on&#160;their lives&#160;for years to come.&#160;\nYou&#160;may&#160;read&#160;the&#160;Rev.
