The couple resides in Lakewood, Colorado where Jonathan is in his sixth year of working in Higher Education. He is a resident director at Colorado Christian University. Joseph Reed ’08 and his wife recently welcomed their son in December 2013. Joseph graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Master’s of Science in Environmental Engineering, Science and Management in May 2013 as was licensed as a professional engineer in Maryland in December 2012. Jeremiah Johnson ’00 was recently honored as the 2012 Neiderhoffer Fellowship recipient at John Jay College.  The award is given to a doctoral candidate in memory of Professor Arthur Niederhoofer, who was a distinguished policing practitioner and scholar.  Jeremiah is picture receiving the award from Arthur’s son, Roy.  In April, Jeremiah was reassigned to the position of Detective Sergeant with the Darien Police Department (CT). Patricia Tinkey (MAHE ’02) received her Doctorate of Education, Ed.D., in Instructional Leadership from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in December 2010. Her dissertation research was on "Student Perceptions of Faith and Learning in the College Foreign Language Classroom." Faith (Noack ’01) Burchfield was awarded the Award for Continuing Education (ACE) through the American-Speech Language Hearing Association in June of 2011.  The ACE award is given to those speech/language/hearing professionals who earned 7.0 ASHA continuing education credits in 36 months. Shenk ’07 received her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine, DO from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (June 2011). Dr. Shenk graduated with Honors as a Sigma Sigma Phi and AOA member, and received recognition as a Distinguished Scholar. She will complete her Medical Internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis, Oregon. Much of the last four years have been spent serving medically underserved populations in rural Virginian and international communities in the Dominican Republic, Kenya, and post-earthquake Haiti. Justin J. Lambright ’05 just graduated in May, 2011 with his Ph.D. in mathematics from Lehigh University.  His dissertation is titled "A Generalization of Kazhdan and Lusztig's R-Polynomials". He will be an assistant professor of mathematics at Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana beginning the fall of 2011. Vicki (Miller ’06) and Mark Schow‘06 recently moved to China. They will be in China for 2-3 years while Mark works as part of the startup team that tests all of the equipment/systems in the nuclear power plant that is being built here. Vicki is working on writing her dissertation for her Ph.D. in sociology while also caring for their 15 month old daughter Elli. Right before their move abroad Mark earned his Master's in Engineering Management from Northeastern Univ. in Boston and also passed the P.E. exam to earn his professional engineering license. Josie Badger '07 of Pittsburgh PA has been named the 2011 Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania. As Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania, Badger will have the responsibility of sharing disability awareness throughout the state and representing Pennsylvania at the Ms. Wheelchair America pageant. Timothy N. McClain (DCP #166) ’04 has joined the Institutional Advancement Department of Mars Hill College as the director of major and planned gifts. He was director of major and planned gifts at Asheville School before coming to Mars Hill. Prior to that position, he served in the fundraising departments of the University of North Carolina at Asheville and Penn State University. He served 11 years in the United State Air Force. Thomas H. Mitchell, Jr. ’04 received a master of theological studies from the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary on May 21, 2010.  He is a member of Covenant Church of Pittsburgh, where he is pastor of prison ministry.  He plans to begin an outreach ministry for ex-offenders.  Thomas and his wife, Candace, live in Pittsburgh and will be moving soon to Gibsonia, Pa. Anthony was a pastor for five years before entering seminary. He currently is youth and associate pastor for Trinity Fellowship Church in Youngstown, Ohio. He also serves as the church's director of addiction and recovery ministry and as the director of Christian education and Sunday school, and oversees the youth and young adult programs. Anthony, his wife Ellie, and one year old son Jake live in Poland, Ohio. Benjamin Kimmel ’06 and Jennifer (Picard) Kimmel ’06 were married on May 24, 2009 at Ruthfred Lutheran Church in Bethel Park, Pa. They make their home in Shelocta, Pa. Ryan Hassen ’06 served as a groomsman and Katie Abebe ’07, and Dana (Leopold) Hoover ’06 served as bridesmaids. Ben works for Dutch Run Coal as a weighmaster at Tipple 4J and Jen is a special education teacher at Bethel Park High School. (submitted Summer 2010)

Laura M. (Askey ’06) Mack married James Mack on July 31, 2010. She has been hired as a substitute teacher and a teacher for homebound students in the Philadelphia area. (submitted Summer 2010)

Amelia Lynn (Ward ’06) Takiua received a missionary in training certificate on May 21, 2010 from the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Amelia is a member of Shawnee Reformed Presbyterian Church. She worked as a mechanical engineer prior to entering seminary. Amelia married Kihei Takiua, also a graduate of RPTS, on June 5, 2010. He hopes to serve as a pastor soon. Amelia Ward ’06 married Kihei Takiura on June 5, 2010. He is a graduate of Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary (RPTS) in Pittsburgh, and hopes to serve as a pastor soon. They are living in Japan and enjoying each step along the way. (submitted Summer 2010)

Kara M. Conaway ’08 is going to Honduras this coming September to do some long term mission work. Part of her job will be to help establish a mentorship program between orphan girls and members from local Honduran churches. She will also be helping them move some of the girls into a newer and larger facility once it is ready to be opened. She is committed to spending a year down there. (submitted Summer 2010) 

 

Whitney Greer Gamble ’08 received a master of theological studies degree from the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary on May 21, 2010. She is a member of College Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls, Pa., where she also teaches the middle school girls' Sabbath School class. Whitney earned her bachelor degree in biblical studies with a minor in Japanese from Geneva, and plans to enroll in a Ph.D. program in Old Testament following graduation. (submitted Summer 2010) 

 

Rachel Kennedy ’09 is pictured next to the world's largest ox cart, in Sarchi, Costa Rica while traveling with fellow Geneva students. Sarchi is the handcraft capital of Costa Rica and is famous for its colorfully-decorated ox carts (a symbol of Costa Rica). This ox cart was built for the Guinness Book of World Records.
