He Said - He Said:
a T.A.S.T.E. Success Story

For last year's T.A.S.T.E. (Take A Student To Eat) program, alumnus Marty Goetzinger '99 took student Caleb Harrington '18 out to eat. The event was very positive, despite some initial concerns, and the connection has lasted. We asked each of them for their side of the story.

Caleb-Harrington Marty Goetzinger

How did you get involved?

Caleb Harrington (CH): I am the President of the Student Alumni Association, so I was happy to be part of this brand new initiative.

Marty Goetzinger (MG): Geneva notified me of the opportunity. I wanted to see what it was like, and I was hoping to have a chance to give back to a student who was where I was years ago.

Did you have any reservations or worries prior to the initial meeting?

CH: I was worried about interaction being too formal and not having anything in common with Mr. Goetzinger, which would make things awkward.

MG: I really just went into it with an open mind and hoped for the best.

How would you say the overall experience went?

CH: The experience was great! My major is Business Marketing and that is exactly what Mr. Goetzinger studied when he was at Geneva. The Alumni Relations office did a great job connecting us, and we had a lot in common.

MG: The experience was very beneficial. It is nice to be able to give back and be an example to a student who is pursuing the same career path that I am currently in. I liked to see that Geneva is making an effort to include alumni in this event.

Has your relationship continued?

CH: Yes, we have developed a great friendship. We text pretty often and usually meet up every couple of months. My fiancé and I are planning on meeting him to go ice skating in Pittsburgh this January.

MG: We have developed a good friendship while also being able to talk business and try to get Caleb some connections. I have introduced him to some people at Microsoft, and we still go out just to enjoy each other’s company.

Would you recommend that other students or alumni participate in the T.A.S.T.E. program?

CH: Yes, I absolutely would. It is a great opportunity to possibly make a new friend, as well as develop connections with someone who could offer advice or even help with getting a job.

MG: I would surely recommend this program to other alumni. It involves a low time commitment with very positive results!

T.A.S.T.E. is back!

Add some flavor to your week.

T.A.S.T.E.

The friends you make at Geneva are for life – now let us connect you with the next generation of Geneva grads. The Geneva College Office of Alumni Relations would like to invite alumni in the Pittsburgh region to participate this spring in the T.A.S.T.E. (Take a Student to Eat) Program! The purpose of the get together is to pair students with alumni who graduated in the same major or career interest.

1. Sign up for the T.A.S.T.E. Program

Signing up to participate in the T.A.S.T.E. Program is as easy as filling out the signup form, which is open from January 4 through January 28, 2017.

When you sign up for T.A.S.T.E., you are committing to taking two students out for a meal off-campus and covering the costs for dinner.

This doesn’t have to be at a five-star restaurant, just a good place to enjoy a meal and conversation together!

2. Get connected with current students.

We will do our best to connect you with one to two current students. We will facilitate your introduction over email, and then you take it from there!

3. Take them out to eat.

Choose a restaurant, pick a date and time, and enjoy getting reacquainted with Geneva through the eyes of current students. Swap stories, share career advice, and let them know what life is like after Geneva.

4. Stay in touch.

While you are only committing to sharing one meal together, we encourage our participants to stay in touch with the students and continue to build the relationships you form.
