Laura Pettler

Laura Pettler ('97) continues to set new standards and milestones for criminal justice

Beaver County native and Geneva alumna, Laura Pettler ‘97 redefines what a successful career looks like. Pettler has a wide range of passions from French Bulldog and Doberman Pinscher Fancier, to DIYer, to equestrian, to singer/songwriter. Her pursuit of expertise in these areas reflects her outstanding career, where she continues to set new standards and milestones for criminal justice.

Laura Pettler, B.S., M.S., Ph.D., is a forensic criminologist and has also earned several certifications including certification as a North Carolina Private Investigator and by the International Association for Identification as a Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA). Pettler is a former District Attorney's Investigator for North Carolina, was head of District 20A's Cold Case Task Force, the Director of North Carolina's first and only Crime Scene Reconstruction and Behavioral Analysis Program, and is now retained by Lancaster County South Carolina Coroner's Office as their Forensic Criminologist, having previously served as a Deputy Coroner. Pettler is also CEO and entrepreneur of Laura Pettler & Associates (LPA), a private investigation agency.

Her dedication, expertise, and success extend past the positions she has held. An avid learner, and driven by the life motto “Aspire to Inspire,” Pettler is the first in the world to author a book on crime scene staging, Crime Scene Staging Dynamics in Homicide Cases. Beyond that, Pettler invented The Kaleidoscope System, a shooting and bloodstain reconstruction system that allows the user to reconstruct bullet trajectory and bloodstain trajectory simultaneously.

A highly requested speaker, Pettler has appeared extensively in print and other media, having been interviewed and consulted on her various areas of expertise. She returned to Geneva in February (2018) to speak on crime scene staging. Her willingness to share her knowledge and experiences comes from her passion to help others and inspire them to live excellently.

Pettler’s success demonstrates how far hard work, education, experience, and passion can take a career and life. Pettler exemplifies this through her life and work.

Pettler will be hosting a weeklong So You Want to Be a CSI? summer camp for kids at Geneva and a one-day True Crime camp for adults. Both camps take place in late June 2018.
