How to Parent Your New Roommate

Of course you love your child and you are so glad they are safe, but their intrusion has not only wrecked your open guest room, sunroom, or basement ambiance, but you now have another mouth to feed, and a young adult living in your home who is mourning their loss and the rapid change in the expectations for their spring semester. So, how do you cope?

Van Zanic - Athletic Director

"We are heartbroken for all of our spring student-athletes, especially our seniors, when the season was taken away so abruptly. We just want each of you to know that we are thinking of you and praying for you during this time of uncertainty. We will hold a special place in our heart for senior class of 2020. You will always be a member of the GT family." Prov. 3:5-6

Half-full or Half-empty?
By Melinda Stephens, PhD, Provost & Chemistry Professor
"This is the image from the Geneva Chemistry Club t-shirt from 2011. It's one of my favorites. It reminds me that the same situation can be viewed differently depending on one's perspective. And right now, as the nation responds to COVID-19, I need to be reminded of this. We might be inclined to feel anxious and frustrated by the lack of control that we have these days with 'stay-at-home' orders that have disrupted our plans in so many ways. As Christians, we can be assured that God is in control, and he will be with us through the weeks ahead." May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him - Romans 15:13

Love and Blessings
From Dr. Mildred Johnson, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice

To all of our wonderful students and our 2020 graduating seniors, please know that we love you so much. This time may be tough for you but allow it to be memorable and understand that you have made history. It might not be exceptionally clear right now because we are in the midst of it, but please know and understand that March 2020 and the months to follow will go down in history, and you are a very important part of that history for America and, of course, Geneva College. We will get through this together. We might not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future. God is still in control!

Even as your professors interact with you via online through various forms of teaching and communication, know that we care and we want the best for you. We are committed to making sure you get a Christ centered education that will prepare you to be the Christian leaders that God has called you to be. This is an opportunity for all of you to go forth and make a real difference. You are a representative of Christ and Geneva College, and now more than ever your faith needs to be evident! It may be hard at times to conceptualize what is going on but stand strong in prayer and know that we are standing with you.

We miss you so much! We may be apart physically, but we are with you spiritually.

What Passes and What Doesn't
By Dennis Damazo, Director of Security

As we continue to navigate through these challenging times, I'm often reminded of a phrase my wife used throughout the years when things have come up in our lives, especially with our three sons. She would always say, This too shall pass. I never gave it much thought until recently, when our world and lives changed in such a drastic way. Being one of the few people on campus these days gives me plenty of time to reflect as I walk the halls and campus. I think about how my son Noah has grown in maturity and faith from a freshman four years ago to a soon-to-be-graduating senior. I also think about our students, especially our seniors, who have grown in similar fashion. We're good. This too shall pass. Psalms 46:1 reminds us that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. That’s what will not pass.
