The Geneva College MSOL / Serving Leaders Conference - April 19, 2012

This year′s 2012 Geneva College/MSOL Serving Leader Conference marks the 15th time we have hosted this event. Our first conference was held in 1995 and, except for the years 2006 to 2009, we′ve offered this opportunity for attendees to be inspired, to network, to learn something new about leadership, and to take with them ideas that can be applied at work and in life.

At our first leadership conference, which was held at the Station Square Marriott Inn, Max DePree served as our keynote speaker. Max wrote several books including Leadership Jazz and Leadership is an Art, and was well-known as the CEO of Herman Miller Furniture in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At the time, he was a very popular speaker and, in his role as CEO, was highly regarded as an exemplar of servant leadership. About 45 people attended, including one future MSOL Cohort 01 student and graduate, Jim Schuster. Max set the standard for the quality of speakers that we would be fortunate to have as keynotes for future leadership conferences.

Among those keynote speakers are:

Dr. Larry Donnathorne, author, retired U.S. Army Colonel, and former member of West Point′s faculty

Ben Hogan, Geneva College graduate and, at the time, CEO of General Electric′s Healthcare division

Dr. Don Hatfield, Geneva College graduate and former director of leadership development at the Gallop Institute

Frances Hesselbein, Founder and Chair of the recently renamed Frances Hesselbein Leadership Institute (formerly the Peter Drucker Institute)

Dr. Joseph Rost, leadership author and former professor/director of the Ph.D. in Leadership Program at San Diego State University

Dr. Gary Yukl, leadership author and professor at Albany University
Larry Spears, former director of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership

Michele Hunt, author and founder/director of the firm Leadership Catalyst Change

Dr. Margery Blanchard, author and co-founder of Blanchard Companies and director of the firm′s Office of the Future

Dr. Ken Blanchard, author and co-founder and Chief Spiritual Office of Blanchard Companies

This year′s conference continues that high standard of keynote speakers by featuring President of Chick-fil-A Dan Cathy, Mark Miller, V.P. of Training and Development at Chick-fil-A, and John Stahl-Wert, President of Serving Leaders. We expect another terrific conference. Last year′s conference attendance was 450. This year, we are planning for 500!

We invite all of the Link to Leadership readers to attend, especially our MSOL students and alumni. This event is for you-Thursday, April 19 at the Marriott Inn North, Cranberry Township.

Words to Lead by

"A godly Leader finds strength by realizing his weakness, finds authority by being under authority, finds direction by laying down his own plans, finds vision by seeing the needs of others, finds credibility by being an example, finds loyalty by expressing compassion, finds honor by being faithful, finds greatness by being a servant."

~ Roy Lessin

"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness… For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."

2 Peter 1: 3-8
