Announcing a Name Change!

Geneva College is proud to announce the formation of the new Department of Professional & Leadership Studies.

The Department of Professional & Leadership Studies will now comprise our adult degree classroom and fully online programs, our core and elective classes (formerly called BRIDGE), our classroom-based Master of Science in Organizational Leadership, our new, fully online Master of Science in Leadership Studies, and more!

While our name might be new, we are not. We are the same people that have been serving working adults for over 25 years, helping them complete their bachelor’s degrees or earn their master’s degrees in a convenient and flexible program. While some staffing changes have occurred as we shift responsibilities and projects, simply use the same contact number you’ve been using and we will be sure to help you or direct you to the right person.

Please be in prayer for our new department. We have many more exciting new surprises for you on the horizon!

A Word from Dean Gallo

With a growing number of students seeking to advance their education, yet finding it difficult to do so in the traditional class environment, Geneva College is very excited to announce the Master of Science in Leadership Studies (MSLS), its first fully online graduate degree in its more-than-165-year history! Serving as a companion to Geneva’s existing, classroom Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) program, the MSLS hopes to broaden the reach of a distinctly Christian leadership program and serve new populations.

According to John Gallo, Dean of Graduate, Adult and Online programs, “for over 20 years, the MSOL program has been providing a convenient way for working professionals in western PA to earn their graduate degree. I’m a proud alumnus of that program! However, we continually see a growing number of students who travel frequently for work and can’t commit to an evening school program, or live too far from one of our locations. Now, with the MSLS, we have the opportunity to serve students from around the country, and students will be able to complete their degree on their time, at their pace.”

The innovative MSLS program is a 36-credit program that will largely model the existing MSOL curriculum. However, instead of the capstone Integrated Leadership Project (ILP) that exists in the MSOL, students will instead chose a nine-credit specialization. Initial specializations will be in Ministry Leadership, Financial Leadership, and Project Management and Leadership. However, more will be added over time. In a competitive job market, graduate students are looking for an extra advantage to help them move into key leadership positions in today’s organizations, and specializations allow a graduate student the ability to spend a concentrated time honing their leadership skills around a particular area of focus.

Another interesting aspect of the program is that not only will students have the opportunity to interact with classmates who may live around the country, but faculty will also represent a diverse experience base as well. In addition to the experienced and committed existing MSOL faculty, Geneva College has assembled a team of committed Christian faculty from all around the country who will be teaching in the program as well. According to Gallo, “We have faculty from several states, all of whom have terminal degrees, have experience in teaching organizational leadership online, and are leaders in many different types of industry. The ability to learn from someone, for example in Texas, or Florida, helps future leaders go beyond the border of their existing community and get a national perspective on the key issues impacting today’s companies.”

The first class start of the new MSLS fully online program is March 9, 2015. For more information, contact Alice Price at 724-847-6899.
