We are eagerly looking forward to and actively preparing for your arrival on Wednesday, August 19th.
We’re sharing updates that have been made to the check-in and move-in process in order to abide by updated Pennsylvania State regulations related to COVID-19, to maximize efficiency, and to ultimately ensure the safest and healthiest start for our Geneva College community.
New commuter students (freshmen and transfers) will check in at the tent on Alumni Hall lawn between 2-4:45 p.m. New residential students (freshmen and transfers) will check in at their assigned residence hall. Residential students will be assigned a one-hour move-in time slot between the hours of 9 a.m.-4:45 p.m. based on their specific housing assignment (room number and building).
Move-in times will be assigned to each resident student to assure the ability to move into the halls with ease while complying with state and local regulations regarding physical distancing and phased reopening of the residence halls. We ask that all students and their families adjust their plans, as necessary, to arrive and unload their vehicle during the designated time.
If you are a resident student, you will be directed through campus by our Welcome Week staff to an unloading station outside your assigned residence hall. There you will be greeted by staff who will assist families with unloading their vehicle at an assigned staging area. Once your vehicle is unloaded, our team will ensure that each student’s belongings get to their assigned room.
Please note that due to Pennsylvania state regulations regarding physical distancing, phased reopening of residence halls, and requirements for quarantine for those traveling from “hot spot” states into Pennsylvania (a list that is updated frequently), parents, friends, or other family members will not be permitted to enter most campus buildings, including the residence halls, until further notice. We understand that this requires a sacrifice for most families. We know that families want to assist students in setting up their space for the year and see where their child will be living. Changing this transition from high school to college is not a decision we made lightly, but with the guidance of trusted medical professionals. We look forward to welcoming families into the residence halls again in the future, but at this time, we must proceed differently to be able to reopen safely and to honor the guidelines put in place by our state officials. Once a student’s belongings are unloaded at the staging area, the student may remain at the residence hall to unpack their belongings if they choose.
We deeply value the presence of families on this significant day for our new students. Although the residence halls will not be open to guests, locations will be set up on college grounds for families to spend time with their student prior to leaving campus. All Welcome Week activities will be adjusted to accommodate the extended move-in hours.
As students and guests arrive to campus, please note the following:
Residential students will need to know their specific residence hall and room assignment to identify their move-in time slot. (Remember to bring this information with you to campus, too.) Housing assignments are located on myGeneva (Click Student Information > Housing Selection > My Residence Information). With that information, students will easily find their scheduled move-in time in the list of 2020 New Student Move-In Time Slots [link to above doc].
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us ensure a safe and effective move-in. We are excited to have you join the rest of the Geneva community and cannot wait for your arrival!
