From rock wall climbing every Monday to Geneva theater productions, from participation in the annual McKee Masquerade to the CSE’s Mystery Bus Trip, Grace Meyers ‘28 is involved across Geneva’s campus. As a sophomore psychology student, she is deeply invested in her studies and thriving in the Christian community on campus. A college experience and education were not originally in her plan, though.
“In high school, I wasn't sure that I was going to get to go to college,” Grace shares. “It wasn’t looking good financially, and none of the options seemed right. I was preparing to get a job and move through life that way. But then my mom told me about the Geneva Tuition Promise.
“I started looking into Geneva and I found more and more things that I absolutely loved about it ... I'm so glad that God introduced Geneva to me and my parents. Because of the Geneva Tuition Promise, I get to come to Geneva and it's opened so many doors. Now I know that I can go wherever God wants to take me.”
Grace has seen God weaving together a plan for her through the opportunities she has discovered over the past two years. At the same time Grace’s family learned of the Geneva Tuition Promise, Grace was finding that she loved the AP psych class she was taking in high school.
Her parents reflect, “It feels like God led because those two things came together. He provides opportunity, and He provides the means for those opportunities. Geneva’s offer of the program came at just the right time to confirm He has plans for Grace. Just watch and see what He’s going to unfold.”
Those plans have taken a more definite shape for Grace as she works through her second year as an undergraduate student. Since first visiting, Grace has felt that Geneva is the right place for her. Classes, extracurriculars, and Christian community have strengthened that conviction.
Once Grace realized that attending college was possible, she became excited to study psychology and eventually pursue a graduate degree to specialize in adventure-based counseling. She now intends to stay at Geneva to earn her master’s degree in counseling.
“My professors are really passionate. I love that faith is integrated into every class, and you can see repeating patterns in each and every one of them. That's helped me learn my vocation and what I value, and Geneva is setting me up to pursue those things.”
The connections Grace has drawn between her core classes and her career aspirations have pointed her in new directions.
“In my society class, we have deep discussions about real-world issues. I have taken an interest in addiction, and so I now know that I want to work with people in rehab through adventure-based counseling. I'm learning about all these different career paths and opportunities, and how all of those can combine into my calling, with Christ at the center.”
The Geneva Tuition Promise was the open door Grace didn’t expect as she pursues her passions and discovers her vocational calling. This program ensures a quality Christian education at Geneva is within reach for every Pennsylvania family. Grace’s story is its own promise in return — a wholehearted investment in the Geneva community and a commitment to serve Christ and neighbor beyond the years spent on campus.
