Molly Wilson – Student Ministry

Molly Wilson is a 2019 Geneva graduate. Upon the completion of her degree in Student Ministry, Molly began working for the Coalition of Christian Outreach (CCO) at Memphis University. Two years prior, Molly was introduced to the CCO through her participation in the Ocean City Beach Project (OCBD).

"OCBD is a month-long summer community living opportunity for Christian college students to develop further as campus leaders," said Molly. That experience, and Geneva's longstanding good connections with the CCO, helped her confirm her calling to serve in campus ministry. Once Molly graduated from Geneva with her Student Ministry degree, she decided to continue her work at Memphis University.

During her time in the CCO, Molly has had the opportunity to step out of her comfort zone and to learn and grow in ways she hadn’t before. Now nearing the completion of a year-long fellowship for the CCO, she finds her work in campus ministry "grace filled." Not only does she have mentors who cheer her on, but she has also learned to "turn to the One who refines me and teaches me as I am teaching others."

Molly's assignment is to work with the campus ministry staff and another CCO Fellow to come up with events, bible studies, and fellowship opportunities to connect with students. Molly loved getting to have one-on-one relationships with students where she would meet weekly at a local coffee shop or at a park in the city. Through discipleship relationships she was able to share her faith journey with students and walk alongside them in theirs. Molly’s challenge is to recognize where students are in their different walks of faith, and work to make them feel accepted and welcomed, regardless of where they are in life.

Upon her completion of her Fellowship in Memphis, she will return to Pennsylvania to work as campus staff for the CCO at Edinboro University. There she will connect with a local church, invest in the community of Edinboro and reach out to college students at Edinboro University.

Molly's Geneva education helped her feel well-prepared for her CCO assignment. She says:

“I think, collectively, each class brought value to my education. Every class I took at Geneva felt like a conversation between myself and the professors. Each professor offers unique teaching styles that allow you to grow and ask questions that encourage learning rather than stunting it. I have always felt comfortable in my classes that allowed me to be myself and ask questions that I knew I would get an honest answer to. Sometimes the professors would even ask me, 'What do you think?' and while sometimes I did not like this question, I realized they were giving value to my voice and thoughts. Now, it has become foundational to how I do ministry. This question invites students to be a part of the thought process while giving them the autonomy to think for themselves."

Molly encourages current and upcoming students to fully invest during their time at Geneva. "Don’t take your time at Geneva for granted," says Molly. "You are immersed in a community that cares deeply for you. From always being with friends to professors who genuinely care about you, it is four years-worth opening up to trust people and not wishing any of it away."
