Key Courses

Organic Chemistry

It’s all about carbon: learn about carbon’s essential role in the world. Then, go to the lab to study the breakdown of fuels, plastics, and molecules

Chemical Research

Select a passion or problem to study and engage in your own lab research

Physical Chemistry and Thermodynamics

Physical Chemistry and Thermodynamics Study real-world applications of thermodynamics in physical processes, chemical systems, and gases

Biochemisty

Look at the intersection of biology and chemistry through cells, biological reactions, enzymes, and more

Experienced & Accomplished Faculty

Chemistry is the study of molecules, a part of the created universe that is central to nearly all areas of science and engineering.

The chemistry department helps students develop:

  • logical, quantitative thinking
  • general problem-solving
  • powers of observation and manipulation in the laboratory

Chemistry majors will gain knowledge within their discipline while becoming aware of the tremendous responsibility and the sense of awe that comes with understanding and managing the material aspect of God's creation.

  1. Students will be proficient in the chemistry knowledge and skills outlined by the American Chemical Society Committee on Professional Training (ACS-CPT).
  2. Students will be competent in information retrieval and literacy, and in analyzing ideas and information in the chemical sciences.
  3. Students will be able to solve problems of the chemical nature through appropriate hypothesis formulation, experimental design and valid interpretation of results.
  4. Students will be able to communicate clearly and accurately in written and oral forms such as laboratory notebooks, reports, and presentations. They will be able to evaluate the communications of others based on the same criteria.
  5. Students will understand a career in chemistry as an appropriate Christian vocation in which their faith provides perspective as they evaluate the benefits and risk to our society brought about by scientific innovation and act accordingly as a responsible citizen and steward of God's creation.
