Our liberal arts approach includes a general music program meant to be combined with another major or a minor and best suited for students interested in music and another discipline.

People use music to express things they can’t always say. Gain an appreciation and understanding of the arts on theoretical and practical levels so you can foster the gifts God has given you. Music Theory

Learn the fundamentals of music as you study and practice scales, intervals, voice leading, and other essential skills

Aural Skills

With an emphasis on sight-singing, ear training, and the physical expression of music, this class will stretch your understanding of music to the next level

Conducting

Study the science behind conducting by looking at beat patterns, harmony, and musical scores

Music History

Get to know Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and more renowned musicians and their legacies in this survey course

Students who graduate from Geneva College with a degree in music will: 

  1. Perform music with expressiveness, excellence, breadth, and stylistic integrity
  2. Perceive, understand, value, and critically respond to a variety of historical and current musical works in Western and other cultures
  3. Think critically and communicate clearly about theoretical, aesthetic, ethical, social, economic, and philosophical issues in music, relating these to a Christian worldview
  4. Lead others in the appropriate enjoyment and performance of music
  5. Perform in student recitals, performance boards, and ensemble concerts each semester
