January 2011Kim Ritter Gignac - MSOL Alumna ('08, cohort 55) Earning my MSOL degree from Geneva College is one of my best life decisions! Upon hearing about the Organizational Leadership program I immediately said "yes" because it′s rooted in Christianity. The Christian perspective, along with strong leadership theory, sets the MSOL program apart and has been invaluable for me. The Organizational Leadership program gave me personal and professional growth, and the language of business I was seeking at midlife. I graduated in 2008 and the outcome has been tremendous. I believe that it′s because of my Geneva MSOL degree that I secured a position with FedEx Services, one of the most successful and admired organizations in the world. I've been able to put my leadership skills to work in an organization whose values match my own. With the preparation I received from Geneva′s MSOL program, I have done well during the short period of time I've been with FedEx. I have already received a promotion, moving to the Potomac River District and serving larger clients. Last year, I invited the managers of Inside Sales at FedEx to join me for the MSOL Leadership conference featuring nationally recognized leadership expert Ken Blanchard. The quality of the conference was top notch, and I was happy to have my FedEx colleagues in attendance. Our management team was so impacted by the leadership message from MSOL and the positive, practical message from Ken Blanchard that they returned to work and began implementing Ken's "Whale Done" philosophy within our department in Pittsburgh. They did a great job. You'll find whale stuffed animals, blow up whales, and Ken's Whale Done book throughout the department. Soon, the VP of Inside Sales caught on to our enthusiasm. Last week, our Pittsburgh management team rolled out the "Whale Done" philosophy of leading to strengths at a national meeting in Memphis, the FedEx headquarters. My manager, Sheilah Adams, said, "the enthusiasm from managers and directors nationwide was more than I could have dreamed of!" I could not be more proud. I love sharing the skills the MSOL program instilled in me. Not only does the MSOL program have an effect on those who commit to earning the degree, the positive impact of the program reaches far beyond its walls. Congratulations to Geneva′s MSOL program on 15 years of sharing your vision of strong leadership! With sincere thanks, Kim Gignac
