Those Who Mourn
Word
- Matthew 5:4
- What does it mean to “mourn”? Another word found throughout Scripture that is synonymous with the word mourn is lament. Lament is a biblical concept found throughout Scripture (we even have a whole book on it!). Lament is deeply grieved by “things are not supposed to be this way” but hopes deeply in the promise that Jesus is restoring all things to himself. For what things or in what ways does Scripture call us to lament/mourn? (see below Scriptures if you need some guidance in conversation)
Personal Mourning - Personal mourning leads to repentance which leads to salvation
- Romans 7:21-25
- 2 Corinthians 7:8-10
Universal Mourning - Universal mourning leads to hope for all things restored
- Isaiah 61:1-3
