Geneva.edu Puts the “New” in New Year
Have you visited Geneva.edu lately? If not, you are in for a treat. The Geneva College website was updated this new year with modern design elements, new brand identity, new content features, and an upgraded content management system interface. Webmaster Michael Duncan describes the changes as “subtle but powerful.”
Most notable are the changes on the home page with the familiar “flag banner” replaced by an updated Geneva College seal. The updated seal enables the open Holy Bible, as well as the words "Pro Christo et Patria," to be larger and more visible. The year of the founding of the college, 1848, is in a prominent gold, thereby making the history of the college more pronounced.
The new design allows for a more enjoyable experience with a larger format, subtle animation and new fonts optimized for readability. In addition, the home page features two new sections of content including Academics and The Real Deal, which explains how Geneva College “walks the talk” of faith integration in academics, athletics and activities. Completing the featured content is the Alumni & Friends section, now easier than ever to access.
The news section includes a large key visual area that tells a story with a single image and lists other recent news stories with a smaller photo. Duncan added a “parallax scrolling” section to highlight Geneva’s many recognitions and awards. This feature enables presentation of two layers that scroll at different rates creating a 3D-like effect that adds an illusion of depth.
Duncan is assisted by student interns Luke Gatchell ’17, Evan Wehr ’17 and Zack Fisher ‘17, who gain experience in web application programming and using the Cascade web content management system. Duncan says, “Luke’s story is a great testament to the computer science program at Geneva. Here is a student who came to school with no website development experience at all and now he develops complex web applications for the Geneva website. Remarkable!”
Evan’s story is equally impressive as he will graduate with a double major and four minors. Zack has also quickly added value to the team after recently joining.
“Geneva is producing some really talented computer science graduates,” Duncan says. “It is definitely a program on the rise, and our interns are getting real-world experience here that will serve them well in their careers.”
In Athletics, Geneva.edu is taking GT fandom to a new level. While plans are in progress to improve the entire athletics website with greater functionality and usability, many new features are now in use. Live Stats capability enables fans to track game action live on their devices, including game scores and team and individual stats. Live Stats is currently available for nearly every sport Geneva offers. The new Geneva College Athletics Hall of Fame has a dedicated web page where fans can relish in the stories of the first 12 inductees and nominate their favorite GTs for the next class of inductees. Fans can also suit up for the game with official Geneva Tornadoes gear available at the online apparel shop.
So, check out the new and improved Geneva.edu.
