Geneva College - Alumni FYI Newsletter - AugUST 10, 2020

Welcome!

Dear Geneva Alumni,

Your support these past months through prayer, engagement and resources has been inspiring to the on-campus community at Geneva.

We love being with our alumni here on campus, especially at Homecoming. Due to tighter restrictions mandated by the governor of Pennsylvania, we have converted this year’s Homecoming & Family Weekend from an in-person celebration to a virtual event spread over four days, October 7-10. Our Alumni Relations team has been working on creative and engaging activities for reunions, get-togethers and festivities. We are looking forward to spending this time with you, physically separated, but united in friendship and purpose.

Your continued commitment to Geneva College and its mission is needed as we open for fall classes under COVID-19 conditions. Students begin arriving on campus in phases beginning this week up through our first day of classes on August 24. Let us rejoice - We have a faithful God in whom we can trust completely.

Please continue to pray for our:

  • New students and families making decisions about Geneva
  • Returning students getting ready to come back to campus
  • Faculty preparing for new ways of teaching
  • Student Development staff preparing to serve students
  • Continued health and safety for all
Warmly in Christ,

Calvin L. Troup, PhD,
President

Homecoming Update
We have made the prayerful and difficult decision to forego an in-person Homecoming & Family Weekend Celebration. We are planning a variety of virtual opportunities for our alumni, students, parents and friends to take place Wednesday, October 7 through Saturday, October 10, 2020. We encourage you to monitor the website and look for an email with more information.

Virtual 2020 Commencement Announced
Geneva has announced Labor Day Weekend, September 4-5, 2020 as the time to pay tribute to the Class of 2020 with a virtual ceremony. Unfortunately, plans for an on-campus celebration were scuttled after new restrictions by the state of Pennsylvania. Baccalaureate will be livestreamed on Friday, September 4, and Commencement will be celebrated on Saturday, September 5, with prerecorded ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m. for traditional undergraduates / 4 p.m. for graduate degree and adult degree students. Both events can be viewed live and on-demand at https://www.geneva.edu/live.

Visiting Campus
We enjoy having visitors to campus; it gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our core value of vibrant hospitality. On the other hand, the health and safety of our guests and our campus community is of utmost importance to us, and we need to minimize the overall number of people on campus to meet physical distancing requirements.
