Geneva College - Alumni & Friends FYI Newsletter - September 11, 2020

Welcome!

Dear Geneva Alumni,

We’re delighted that campus has finally come back to life with the arrival of a healthy contingent of students eager to be here learning face-to-face in person. The first three weeks of classes have gone well, and we’re improving our game with real-time adjustments including student activities; athletic practices; rehearsals for marching band and Genevans; and food service.

As anticipated, we’re experiencing some COVID-19 cases, so we’ve introduced a weekly monitoring report for Geneva and current Beaver County conditions (www.geneva.edu/covid-19monitor). We’re also adapting our quarantine practices and capacity as conditions continue to change (https://youtu.be/i77IA8sQYLI).

Our virtual Homecoming is just 3½ weeks away — October 7th-10th! Alumni Relations has prepared a program of activities with opportunities to connect with the College and fellow alumni. We hope you’ll be able to participate virtually this fall in anticipation of when we can all get back together in person.

In the meantime, please pray with us as we seek the Lord’s help to conduct the ministry of education with excellence as we press on in our current conditions. We are praying for:

  • Good fruit for our students as they work through the adversities associated with COVID-19
  • The Lord’s protection from outbreaks that would force us out of face-to-face instruction
  • Endurance and grace with one another as we work under the pressures of COVID-19
  • Guidance for our new graduates who celebrated via virtual Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises last week
Warmly in Christ,

Calvin L. Troup, PhD,
President

COVID-19 Monitor Page
Geneva College is continually monitoring conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to determine what additional mitigation actions should be taken to keep our campus community safer. These conditions contribute to the current campus Alert Level status, which is low. New cases, active confirmed cases and Beaver County stats are updated weekly on Fridays.

Geneva Test Optional / Gold & White Referral Program

Community Covenant
Coming back to campus this fall for students, faculty and staff meant incorporating new routines, practices and expectations into the everyday activities of everyone in our community. The college has developed a community covenant that states expectations faculty, staff, and students adopted to care for each other through the fall semester.

Updated Dining Facilities
On-campus dining procedures at Alex’s is much different for students this semester. It’s all because of significant investments being made to ensure safety and adherence to regulations and best practices for food service operations. While changes abound, so do the students’ choices!

Student Athletes Share Why Geneva
Hundreds of student-athletes choose to come to Geneva because what they experience at our institution is special. Find out what some of them have shared. Like junior football player Jacob Neiderhiser, who said, "I chose Geneva because it was the perfect small Christian college for me. God was leading me here and has done great things in my life here."

Library Floods
McCartney Library experienced flooding due to the heavy rain in the early morning, August 29. The flooding started from the roof and made its way through all floors with the most damage on the third floor. Although there were many items affected, the loss could have been much worse. The Covenanter Collection, located on the third floor, had minimal damage. Remedial measures were taken to dry out materials and the building with good results. The library has now re-opened and is fully operational. The library staff is grateful to all those that have reached out and that continue to uphold us in their prayers.
