D3 Week Alumni & Student Athlete Day

D3 Week is an opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. This year, D3 takes place April 4-10 and also marks 10 years of Geneva College athletics being part of the NCAA D3 division. We will recognize our current and former Golden Tornado athletes at this day-long event with a variety of social, networking, and athletic events.

McCartney Society: A book club
for alumni and friends

We invite alumni and friends to join the McCartney Society book club spring series. During the months of February, March, and April, we will meet virtually to discuss Rosaria Butterfield’s The Gospel Comes with a House Key. Each book selected for discussion focuses on Geneva's Core Values – this one: Inspire Vibrant Hospitality.

Featured Class Notes

Howard Peters '62, PhD was recently inducted into the Keystone Central Foundation Hall of Fame. He was the first in his family to finish high school and has had an incredibly successful career as a chemist, patent attorney, and now as a chocolate lover.

Kevin Whisler '77 is the owner of www.pullsupachair.com, a website for parents who have lost children. Although the website is mostly written for men, all can glean something from it. Kevin lost both of his children way too early, and this has been a labor of love to them. It has also helped him in his journey of grief.

Seth Davis '94 lives in Clifton Forge, VA with wife Lara (Drummond) Davis '94 and daughter Catherine. He teaches history and coaches cross country, indoor track, and tennis at Alleghany High School in Covington, VA. In April of 2021, he coached the boys cross country team to win the Class 2A State Championship, which is the first team state title in any sport in the history of the school.

Lois (Piscatello) Montgomery '19 accepted a new position as Digital Forensics and incident Response Analyst for EY. Lois and her husband, Matthew '17 reside in Tennessee.

Katherine Deitrick '19 and Eric Hulings '18 were engaged on October 23, 2021. The couple is looking forward to their intimate wedding on June 25, 2022 in Beaver, PA.

Homecoming

Save-the-date for Homecoming 2022: October 7-8. Class years ending in 2 and 7 will celebrate reunions. If you’re interested in joining a reunion planning committee, contact the Office of Alumni Relations.

Refer a student: Gold & White Alumni Grant

As alumni, when you refer college-bound students to Geneva, you qualify them to receive the gift that only alumni can give, the Gold & White Alumni Grant ($1,000/year for four years).

President, Calvin L. Troup ’83, PhD, is continuing the Gold & White Challenge to encourage alumni referrals and student commitments. Alumni helped us achieve the first goal by January 15 and as part of the Challenge, he has set a new goal of 140 student referrals from alumni and 120 submitted applications to Geneva by May 1, 2022.

New Song: Booking Summer Tour Dates!

New Song is currently booking tour dates for Summer 2022! As many of you know, New Song is a 9-member music and drama ministry group led by Lindsay (Brothers) Shaffer ’11 that has been part of Geneva for 45 years.

The students travel the country for four weeks every summer, performing psalms, hymns, praise and worship songs, and spirituals, as well as skits. Concerts are tailored to the needs and preferences of various churches, camps, town festivals, and residential care facilities.

Newsong is currently scheduling dates in the month of July. If you live in PA, OH, WV, KY, TN, SC, NC, GA, VA, MD, DE, or NJ and are interested in hosting New Song, contact Newsong at Geneva.edu/newsong.

The Genevans Travel Locally and Internationally for Concerts
The Genevans, the Geneva College choir, celebrates its 84th concert season with a program entitled “The Word became Flesh and Dwelt among Us.” The choir will begin its concert season at the Reformed Presbyterian Home in Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. on March 2, 2022, before launching a five-day tour of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

Geneva Boards Double Donor Gifts for March Matchness
Beginning on March 1, members of Geneva College's Board of Trustees and the Advancement Board will match donations to the Geneva Fund and the Geneva Athletic Fund dollar-for-dollar up to $195,000 during the 2022 March Matchness gift challenge. The event runs through March 31, 2022.

Geneva College Selects Courteau to Lead Marketing, Public Relations
Geneva College selected Lindsay Courteau as its new Director of Marketing and Public Relations, responsible for directing and managing institutional marketing efforts and related communications, media, and public relations strategies.
