Why a new brand?

Geneva College’s new brand positions us to clearly communicate that our mission of “Pro Christo et Patria” is as relevant today as it was in 1848 when we were established. Geneva has been providing academically excellent, Christ centered and affordable education to students for over 170 years. The college welcomes and educates all kinds of students—traditional, adult learners and graduate students—and strives to be a racially and ethnically diverse community, connected in biblical community.

At Geneva, Christ-centered faith and learning integration is consistently valued and upheld, cultivating biblical literacy and spiritual depth in preparation for each student’s life’s work. Foundational faith integration and a prioritized liberal arts core support Geneva’s highly valued magnet programs. Together, the Geneva community inspires students to discover a faith-life calling in service to God and neighbor. This is what creates our Geneva edge and brand promise.

Our brand promise and brand messaging is built on three key pillars that summarize who Geneva is. These pillars stand on the foundation of Geneva’s commitment to faith and life integration.

The Seal remains as prominent and relevant today as it did when it was first introduced. However, it has received a refresh, and will now be elevated to uses that call for institutional and academic significance. The primary use of the seal will be for the Office of the President. Our seal still holds true to its original meaning. The open Bible at the center of Geneva’s seal signifies our belief that the inerrant Word of God can reveal a person’s thoughts, no matter how modern.

At the heart of Geneva's curriculum is the conviction that the Word of God is truth and that all authority in heaven and earth belongs to Jesus. The Word of God is not bound; the Bible is always open. Geneva’s seal also displays the college’s founding year of 1848 and our motto: Pro Christo et Patria (For Christ and Country).

The concept of Geneva’s logo is simple.

Geneva has a distinct and valuable mission. It’s represented by the crown and Bible. Our mission is to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbors. Since 1880, Geneva’s neighbors are right here in Beaver Falls. The “Valley” at the top of the logo as well as the three waterfalls representing the original Upper, Middle, and Lower falls in Beaver Falls remind us of the call to serve God and neighbor in the place we are. It calls up the words from Jeremiah 29 where we are reminded that Israelites were called, “to build houses, plant gardens, and seek the prosperity of the city”. They were called to be faithful and fruitful neighbors, even as they were exiled from their own home. Geneva’s new logo challenges all those connected with us to build our lives on the cornerstone that is Jesus Christ wherever we may be called to serve.

Our new logo will be the mark you see on advertising, merchandise, business cards, signage and more.

Our Foundation logo has also received a refresh and we are happy to have the brand fluidly move from the college to the Foundation. Our athletic logo has not changed. While we will be updating how parts of the Golden Tornado logo are used from a branding perspective, the logo itself has not changed.

Over the coming months you’ll see the new brand transform campus and how we communicate. Our new brand theme will craft our communication to tell Geneva’s story through a cohesive message. Geneva has been doing good and faithful work for almost 175 years. Establishing our brand identity the year before we celebrate this significant milestone will position us to start the next 175 years in a way that honors our heritage and positions us to continue to faithfully live out our mission. While honoring the past, our new brand positions us to invite more people into the amazing mission of Geneva, to invite more students and families who are currently unfamiliar with Geneva into the kingdom community we strive to represent.
