Melinda Stephens, Ph. D., is the Provost, Chief Academic Officer and a Professor of Chemistry at Geneva College. She joined Geneva’s Chemistry Department in 1998 and has served as V.P. of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Academic Programs and the Dean of Undergraduate Programs.
Stephens has served on the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh since 1994, acting as Chair in 2016-17, and she is an organizing member of the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, beginning in 2001.
Stephens graduated as class valedictorian with a Bachelor of Chemistry from Geneva College in 1993. She received numerous awards, including the Trustee Scholarship for outstanding academic performance, the Paul H. Gilmore Humanities Award for outstanding work in humanities, the Dr. Roy M. Adams Chemistry Prize for excellence in undergraduate research in chemistry, and the McCartney Prize for the best work in the field of science.
From 1994-1998, Stephens was honored as a recipient of a selective National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, which recognizes graduate students for excellence in STEM fields. She earned her doctorate in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998.
Stephens and her husband, John, have four children and live in Beaver Falls. They attend Pathway Church.
