Advanced Placement Policy

Geneva College may grant college credit for satisfactory completion of a college-level course in a secondary school or for particular scores on an advanced placement examination of the college Entrance Examination Board. CLEP Policy

Geneva College grants credits for the College Board’s College Level Examination Program (CLEP). The College Board’s Examination Program has achieved scientifically reliable evaluation procedures for assessing mastery of knowledge in broad, general fields as well as in specific academic area.

There are two types of exams offered through the CLEP Program: General and Subject. Only the Subject exams may earn credit for the traditional degree seeking student.

  • The Subject examinations have been developed through surveying college professors about the content of the courses they teach and they are well designed and have carefully researched norms. Subject exams are intended for people who have acquired college level learning for which no college credit has been earned. Each individual test correlates with a specific course in a typical college curriculum. Letter grades will be assigned based on the percentile scores as published by CLEP.

CLEP Official Study Guide

This guide is helpful if you are considering takings some of these tests. It provides suggestions for preparation and sample questions and answers. The official CLEP Study Guide may be ordered online. Individual exam study guides are also available for purchase.

Costs and Additional Information

In addition to the exam fee, most test centers charge a nonrefundable administration fee directly payable to the institution. A complete list of test centers is available online. A reminder: you must get course approval from the Registrar at Geneva College for a CLEP exam before you register and take a test. If you do not meet the minimum score, you must wait 6 months before you can retake the same CLEP test. The Geneva College CLEP code is 2273.

Note on CLEP Scores:

CLEP only keeps scores from the previous 20 years. However, Geneva College will honor the CLEP scores and credits from a student’s copy.

Exam Descriptions are available online.
