Credits, professors, homework, campus and friends… at least one or all of these topics may be a cause for anxiety by students who are beginning their attendance at college. Is there a way that we could start to conquer some of those fears before even stepping on the campus as a freshman? The answer to that question is yes. Early college is a great opportunity for high school students to peer into the college experience before going to college full time. There are many benefits that early college provides for high school students. Here are five to start:

  1. Earning Real College Credits

One of the perks of early college participation is the earning of college credits. Both online and on campus classes are open to high school students and are cut to a reduced price per credit. This gives all eligible high school students the ability to acquire some early credits while saving some money in their pockets.

  1. Building Familiarity with College Professors and Their Expectations

Am I capable of completing college homework? Are the classes hard? How will I know what to expect? While taking Early College classes, students are able to gain experience and familiarity with the professors and homework they will receive. Getting to know the level of difficulty and amount of homework expected of you can help many students when entering college for real.

  1. Understanding Time Management

Along with college life comes more responsibility, especially in managing your time. Another bonus of early college is learning to balance all aspects of your life. Time management is an obstacle people struggle with when attending college. If high school students could catch on to proper time management early, they can save time and avoid headaches.

  1. Experiencing Campus Life

While attending college, assignments and classes can seem like the only things that matter. However, that is only one part of the college experience. Campus holds active, fun and overall great experiences. Whether a concert, a football game or free donuts, campus life encourages all students to take part in these enjoyable events.

  1. Making New Friends

Part of the college experience is making connections, building relationships and investing in long-lasting friendships. When participating in early college, students are able to meet different people and start building long-lasting relationships.

Early college provides high school students the ability to get a sneak-peak into what college is like as a whole. Credits, professors, homework, campus and friends don’t need to be intimidating topics anymore. Early college provides a door of opportunity and experience before you. But, will you choose to walk through it?
