Spring 2024 Semester Welcome Weekend

 

Welcome Weekend for the 2024 spring semester, will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 through Saturday, January 6, 2024We are excited to have you join the Geneva community!   

Welcome Weekend will be held in person and is a mandatory for all incoming students (First-year & Transfer). Various proficiency and placement exams will be offered on Thursday and Friday, January 4-5 for any student who needs or wishes to take them.

We are incredibly excited that you have made the decision to join the Geneva community!

We are anticipating your arrival on campus and are ready to walk with you as you start your journey at Geneva College.

Spring Semester Welcome Weekend will be on Thursday-Saturday, January 4-6, 2023. 

By attending Welcome Weekend, you will get class credit, learn about the support services available to help you succeed academically, adjust to collegiate life, and meet new friends and peers. During Welcome Weekend, you will meet staff, faculty, and new friends who are excited about your success and presence at Geneva College.

As you step forward, know that we as staff and faculty are here to walk with you through your new and exciting journey and experience. We are all looking forward to meeting and supporting you through your time in college.

Spring Semester Welcome Weekend 2024 Schedule

Welcome Weekend is integral to your success as a Geneva student.  It is expected that all students who are new to Geneva College attend the entirety of Welcome Weekend. If you have questions about Welceme Weekend, please email cse@geneva.edu.  

Thursday, January 4, 2024

2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Resident Student Check-in and Move-in // Skye Lounge in the Student Center 

Come to Skye Lounge (the upstairs level of the Student Center) to check-in to Geneva before heading to your hall to move-in.      

3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Commuter Check-In // Skye Lounge in the Student Center

Commuters will need to check-in to make sure they are ready to begin at Geneva College.  Come to Skye Lounge (the upstairs level of the Student Center).

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Reading Proficiency Test // McKee Classroom (#15)

Any deposited student that does not have a standardized test score (SAT, ACT, or CLT) for Reading and Writing needs to take the proficiency exam for Reading and Writing.  Many incoming students have taken the exam already, but this will be the last time it is offered before the start of the semester.   

5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.: Welcome Session & Dinner // Benedum Room

Welcome to Geneva!  We are so glad you are part of our community.  We want to start you off with an official Geneva welcome, have dinner together, and set you up well for the start of your Geneva college journey.

8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.: Breakfast // Alexander Dining Hall

It’s the best way to start out the day! Go eat breakfast.

8:45 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.: Math Proficiency & Placement Exam // S&E 212

The Math Proficiency exam is for students who have not established math proficiency with a SAT, ACT, or CLT score, or a College Algebra class. The Placement Exam is primarily for Math, Science, and Engineering Majors and will place students into MAT 120 and MAT 161. 

9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.:  Life and Learning @ Geneva  // Various Locations

We have a great day planned with lots of valuable connections to peers, staff, and faculty who are here to assist your success in college. You also get class credit for being present. Make sure to bring a laptop if you have one for the afternoon session.

Here's a few things that will be part of Welcome Weekend: 

  • meeting with your faculty advisor
  • learning the systems Geneva uses to conduct education.  You'll learn how to print, how to use eLearning, Operoo, and more.
  • You'll get your first Geneva syllabus!
  • Get to know other students starting with you on this new journey. We know meeting new people is awkward, but it also makes college a lot better!
  • Learning skills that will help you navigate life at college and thrive personally, academically, socially, and spiritually as you make the most of your college experience.
  • Explore your new surroundings with friends as you experience a trip to Pittsburgh.
