Since before Plato’s Academy, higher education has sought to establish itself outside the gates of the city. Many things changed since we left behind the streets of Athens and the monasteries of Benedict. Now, the relationship between the city and the university is not only important—it is crucial. Developing a vision for flourishing town-gown relationship benefits both parties, even as it is difficult to maintain.
Challenges to building a healthy and lasting collaboration between colleges and communities will always be with us—conflicting priorities, opposing perspectives, and scars of the past left unaddressed. These challenges invite opportunities for innovation, imagination, and long-term collaboration between the City and the College, for the sake of transformation within our walls and beyond.
Join the Master of Arts in Higher Education program at Geneva College as we engage in honest conversations about the challenges and possibilities of the Town and Gown.
In celebration of his retirement and 30+ years of service to Geneva College, Dr. Brad Frey will be giving his "last lecture."
