Beaver Falls, PA – It took a while, in fact it took exactly 36 minutes for Houghton College, the NAIA′s third ranked team, to find the net against Geneva College on Saturday. When the dust had settled, Houghton ran past the Golden Tornadoes 5-0 and showed everyone that their number three ranking is justified.

The loss was Geneva′s third in a row and dropped the Golden Tornadoes to 4-6 overall. Meanwhile, Houghton improved to 8-0-1 and have now gone over two years without losing a regular season match.

Houghton got on the board in the 36th minute when Rebecca Smith beat goalkeeper Amber Weaver. Weaver was once again spectacular at times and kept the Golden Tornadoes in the match. Weaver made 15 saves on the day and held Houghton to a pair of first half goals, both of which came less than 30 seconds apart.

In the final 45 minutes, the Highlanders found the net three times to put the game away in minutes 56,76 and 78. Houghton out shot Geneva 24-2 in the match and kept solid pressure on Weaver and the Geneva defense for the majority of the afternoon.

Geneva will look to rebound when it travels to Mt. Vernon Nazarene next Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes have just two home matches remaining on the schedule with the first of which set for October 14th against Daemen College.
