BEAVER FALLS, Pa. –The Geneva College Department of Psychology, Counseling, and Human Services is committed to extending their Christian faith perspective beyond the Geneva College campus into local churches and communities.

With this primary goal in mind, the Human Services Program will be participating in the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) conference in San Diego, CA in November.

Dr. Cathy Sigmund, Director of the Human Services Program, Associate Professor of Psychology, Counseling, and Human Services will be presenting a workshop entitled, “Transforming Behavioral Health Care through Local Church Initiatives.” A major purpose of the workshop is to discuss a new model of behavioral health services that aims at realigning services with institutions, i.e. the Church, and practices that are indigenous to the Christian culture.

In addition, five senior Human Service majors, Leah Brooks, Megan Espencheid, Erinne Metler, Lori Traytor, and Sara Van Kirk will be accompanied Dr. Sigmund to the conference to gain a better understanding of the field of human services and available service/employment opportunities. The senior human service majors will also be responsible for distributing information concerning the Geneva College Department of Psychology, Counseling and Human Services programs, the adult Degree Completion Program in human services, as well as other Geneva College programs.

Dr. Sigmund and students also intend to survey NOHS participants to determine interest in developing a national Christian human service professional organization.
