"11 Geneva Players Honored by MSFA"
Beaver Falls, PA - Many people doubted Brian Hall′s ability to return to the Geneva line-up after he suffered a severe ankle injury that cut short his 2005 season after just two games. One person that didn′t doubt his ability to return was Hall himself and he proved to be the only one that mattered. Hall′s comeback has gone full circle after he was named an MSFA first-team defensive selection for the third time in his career. Geneva′s third all-time leading tackler, Hall has matured into one of the finest linebackers in the country and has served as the center-piece to Geneva′s defensive crew for the past five years.
In 2006, Hall led Geneva in tackling for the third time in the past four years. He averaged more than 10 tackles per game, which was good enough for fourth in the Mid-States Football Association.
While Hall was Geneva′s only first team selection, Geneva did have three players represented on the second team. Senior center Jim Raley and senior wide receiver Michael Lehman were second team selections, while Nick Phillips was also a second team selection on defense.
A total of seven Geneva players were listed as honorable mention selections following the 2006 campaign including senior and four-year starting quarterback Justin Sciarro. Other honorable mention selections were handed out to receivers Luke Duriancik and Brian Dvorsak, linebackers Greg Eberhart, Zach Feltrop and Gabe Gordon and defensive back Keith Davis.
"These guys were all very deserving of post-season awards," said head coach Geno DeMarco. "We had a great group this season and I couldn′t have asked for anything more out of them this year. We take great pride in leaving everything out on that field and for anyone that watched the way we finished the season, there was no doubt that our team gave everything they had in 2006."
Geneva finished the season with a record of 4-5, including a heartbreaking one-point loss to top ranked St. Francis, IN on the last day of the regular season. The Golden Tornadoes will now turn their attention to NCAA Division III and the Presidents′ Athletic Conference, which is where they will begin play in 2007.
