Anderson, IN – It didn′t take long for Geneva′s men′s basketball team to recover from a tough loss on Friday night. Less than 24 hours after dropping a five-point decision to Taylor University, Geneva cruised to a 124-63 win over Indiana University-East. The victory improved Geneva′s overall record to 5-2 on the season.
The Golden Tornadoes opened a 7-0 lead to start the game and they would never trail. Opening up a 64-35 halftime advantage, Geneva continued to shoot the ball well for 40 minutes and cruised to its fifth victory of the season. “We needed a game like this,” said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. “Friday′s game was so physical it took a lot out of our guys, but to their credit, they responded well today and shot the ball much better.”
Geneva managed just a pair of three-point field goals in the loss on Friday, but on Saturday, they shot 8-14 from three-point range and were a sizzling 63% from the field as a team.
Kyle McDermott, who surpassed the 1000 point plateau on Friday, didn′t miss a shot and was 9-9 from the field in leading Geneva with 22 points. Every Geneva player on the roster scored, including Greg McDivitt′s 16 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double in as many nights. Mike Ross and Ryan Burns also scored in double figures with ten points each.
“We need to get contributions from a lot of guys in order for us to be successful, “said Santarsiero. “Our post players have dominated the scoring for our team in the early season, but we will certainly need points from our guards and they provided some of that scoring punch today.”
Geneva will return to Metheny Fieldhouse on Wednesday to play host to Grove City College and will then host Westminster College on Saturday night.
