Praxis Makes Perfect, Malone′s Parson Better Late than Never
Canton, OH – When Geneva′s women′s basketball game against MaloneCollege tipped off on Saturday afternoon, the Pioneers were without Nikki Parson, their All-American center. It turned out, Parson was busy taking her Praxis exam and was only able to get to the game for the second half. Twenty minutes turned out to be enough time for Parson to make an impact as she helped Malone erase a seven-point halftime deficit on its way to a 69-58 victory over Geneva. The loss was Geneva′s first of the season dropping its record to 2-1. Meanwhile, Malone remained perfect in moving its record to 6-0.
Parson scored all of her 16 points in the final 20 minutes of the game as Malone rebounded from a 37-30 halftime deficit. While the Pioneers enjoyed a balanced scoring attack with four players scoring in double digits, Geneva got good offensive contributions as well. Renee Rawding led all scorers with 18 points, including a perfect 10-10 from the foul line. Allyson Clarke chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Jackie Anthony and Lauren Uranker each added nine points in the loss.
“It was a good ball game and a good weekend of competition for our ladies,” said head coach Ron Galbreath. “Malone is a very solid team and hopefully playing this caliber will help us down the road.”
Geneva was 0-8 from three-point range and managed just seven field goals in the final 20 minutes. For the game, the Golden Tornadoes shot 42% from the field, while Malone shot a solid 47% for the game.
Geneva will play its home opener next Saturday afternoon when they host St. VincentCollege at at Metheny Fieldhouse.
