A series of on-campus events in January will mark Geneva College′s 2007 celebration of the life, work and birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. All of these events are free and open to the public.

On Monday, Jan. 15, Geneva will feature Willie Pickens in concert. Pickens is a longtime jazz pianist from Chicago who delights audiences with a wide range of piano music everywhere that he goes. Former Geneva faculty member and well-known community member Elizabeth Asche Douglas will join Pickens for several selections. This concert will be at 7 p.m. in Skye Lounge in Geneva′s Student Center. A light reception will follow.

On Wednesday, Jan. 17, Dr. Charles Marsh from the University of Virginia will speak about his book The Beloved Community: How Faith Shapes Social Justice, from the Civil Right Movement to Today. A question-and-answer time will follow Marsh′s presentation, which will be 7 p.m. in Skye Lounge in Geneva′s Student Center.

On Friday, Jan. 19, Geneva′s own Todd Allen, a professor in the communications department, will give a presentation on “Return to the Civil Rights Bus Tour,” a video that chronicles a tour Allen leads each summer. This event will be at 10:10 a.m. in Skye Lounge in Geneva′s Student Center and will include a viewing of the video as well as a panel discussion with several past participants of the bus tour.
