With Geneva′s leading scorer, Allyson Clarke, nursing a sprained ankle on the bench, the Golden Tornadoes put up its second largest offensive output in the last five years under head coach Ron Galbreath. The Golden Tornadoes came away with an 89-77 victory against Carlow University to improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the AMC North. "We were hopeful that some of our ladies would step up with Allyson out of the line-up," said Galbreath. "However, I never expected to put up 89 points and I certainly didn′t expect to give up 77." Geneva, a team that prides itself on defense, came into the game allowing just 56 points per game, but watched Carlow sizzle from the foul line by shooting 24-27 from the stripe to stay in the game. For Geneva, it didn′t need to get to the line to score since the Golden Tornadoes were 33-56 (59%) from the field for the game. "We were very efficient from the field tonight," said Galbreath. "It was a solid effort on offense, but we really didn′t do a great job in containing Carlow. They did a great job staying in the game." Geneva looked like it would run away with the game in the first half. Twice Geneva built 19 point leads with the latest coming on a pair of Jackie Anthony free throws with 4:34 left in the second half that extended Geneva′s lead to 37-18. Just four minutes into the second half, Carlow had trimmed the lead to six at 51-45. In fact, the Celtics were able to pull within three points on four different occasions, including a 64-61 Geneva lead at the 8:06 mark of half number two. Geneva went on an 11-5 run in the next four minutes to extend its lead back into double digits and ultimately put the Celtics away for good. Geneva had six players score in double figures led by Anthony′s season high 23 points. Renee Rawding added 16 points, while Lauren Uranker had 14 and Ruth Dobos scored 12 in the victory. Carlow was led by 20 points each from Jacqueline Muir and Christina Costa. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Franciscan University on Thursday and to Waynesburg on December 20th for the final two games of 2006. Geneva will open the New Year with a home game against Thiel College on January 3rd.
