Ft. Myers, FL – For the first time in the young 2007 season, Geneva′s softball didn′t split a doubleheader. However, it wasn′t exactly the way the Golden Tornadoes wanted to end that trend as they dropped both games at the Gene Cusic Classic on Friday. Geneva dropped a 10-2 decision to Urbana in game one and fell 8-3 to Siena Heights in the second game of the doubleheader. For the season, Geneva fell to 3-5 overall.

In game one, Geneva jumped out on top with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning. Mary Gaylor reached first on an error and Amy Pearce and Marisa Barickman both scored on the play. Urbana scored ten unanswered runs in the next five innings to break the game wide open. Five of the ten runs allowed by Geneva were unearned. Erinne Metler took the loss by allowing three of those unearned runs in four innings of work. Metler allowed 11 hits in her four innings while striking out three. Offensively, Geneva managed just three hits in the loss.

Game two started much like the first as the Golden Tornadoes allowed three unearned runs in the first inning to fall behind quickly. Geneva managed to come back with a run in the first and two more in the second. Kim Slater′s RBI single in the first inning got Geneva on the board and RBI′s from Ashley Archer and Marisa Barickman helped tie the game. Siena Heights got a two-run homer in the third inning to take a lead they would never relinquish. Ashley Archer took the loss in seven innings of work. She allowed four earned runs on 12 hits. Archer struck out seven in the loss. Alicia Feathers and Amy Pearce had two hits each in the loss.

Geneva will face Cedarville and Siena Heighs again on Saturday morning before closing out its Florida trip with a pair of games on Monday.
