Tale of Two Games, Geneva Shut-Out, Then Shuts Out Bethany

Beaver Falls, PA - It was a tale of two totally different games on Wednesday for Geneva and Bethany in a non-conference softball doubleheader that featured future foes in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference. Game one saw Bethany score early and hold on for a 3-0 victory. In the night cap, Geneva returned the favor with some early fireworks, which resulted in a five-inning 9-0 victory. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 10-9.

In game one, Bethany put together all of its offense in the second inning. The Bisons touched up starter Ashley Archer for five hits and three runs in the top of the second. That was all the scoring Archer would allow, but it was also all the scoring Bethany would need. Geneva scattered six hits in the loss, including two each from Michawn Rich and Amy Pearce. Geneva′s only major scoring threat came when it left the bases loaded in the third inning.

Game two started much more promising for the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva plated five runs in the bottom of the first with the first five Geneva players crossing home plate. Rich had an RBI double and Geneva also took advantage of four walks in the inning. Two more runs in the second and third proved to enough for a five-inning victory. Erinne Metler continued her strong pitching with her second victory in as many days. Metler pitched her second straight complete game shut-out and allowed just four hits, while striking out two for her fifth victory of the season.

Geneva will face another future PAC foe on Thursday when it travels to Greenville, PA to take on Thiel College.
